Take the TM Switch As an Example, Five Steps to Choosing a Microswitch (3)

Jan. 30, 2023

Step 3: Consider environmental conditions

Environmental requirements can have a significant impact on the selection of microswitches, especially in applications requiring high reliability and criticalities such as industrial controls and medical equipment. Understanding the environmental conditions of the application includes requirements such as contaminants in the air that may enter the switch, the fluid the switch is exposed to, and the operating temperature.

There are many factors that affect the environmental conditions of the travel switch, and the author will devote space to explain them later. This article uses the TMAZTZ micro switch as an example to explain the selection strategy for different use protection levels.

If the equipment itself is used in a good environment, with less oil and water splashes in the travel switch position; or at the nut, with a panel separating the head from the switch body. In this case, the TM-1 switch in the lower left corner can be selected for economic reasons (sometimes a leather cover is often added to the switch in order to protect the terminal place).

When using a dusty environment, the TZ-7 travel switch with the same mounting dimensions can be chosen. Thanks to the additional plastic base and housing, the protection is naturally increased by one level. At this point, it should be noted that the Yongde TZ-7 series has an agreed heating current of 10A, while the corresponding value for the Yongde TM-1 switch is 15A.

If the operating environment has minimal dust and water droplets and the mounting position is adequate, we recommend the YNT TZ-6 sealed limit switch. With the addition of a metal enclosure on the outside and a rubber seal on the inside of the TM-1307, the TZ-6 (hermetically sealed) has a protection rating of IP65 and is resistant to low-pressure jets of water at all angles and to the entry of all kinds of dust; if the environment is dry, the TZ-6 (normal) switch is also a good choice.
